Trina Solar, is a global leading provider of photovoltaic (PV) module and smart energy solutions. Trina Solar delivers PV products, applications and services to promote global sustainable development. Trina Solar was established in 1997 and is headquartered in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, China.
Global Location Strategies was commissioned by Trina Solar, a leading supplier of solar modules for utility-scale and distributed solar projects, to identify and evaluate locations for its first solar module assembly facility in the United States. The project required a site with access to large quantities of energy, access to a highly skilled workforce, and a site that allowed for speed-to-market opportunities. Additionally, a friendly and welcoming business climate in the state and local community were critical considerations.
Using GLS’ internal site database and methodology, GLS identified 33 buildings and greenfield site locations that merited further evaluation for the assembly facility that could serve as an alternate site location for consideration. In addition to the site identification efforts, GLS managed a parallel path for risk assessment and mitigation on three locations previously prioritized by the Trina team. The risk mitigation considered key project drivers that could impact delays in operation such as due to geopolitical considerations and energy availability.
GLS negotiated and secured economic incentives on behalf of the company.
In September 2023, Trina Solar announced its selection of Wilmer, Texas for its first assembly facility in the U.S. When completed, the 1 million+ square foot solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing facility will provide 1,500 local jobs, produce 5 GW of modules, and source polysilicon from the United States and Europe.
