Kairos Power is a mission-driven nuclear technology, engineering, and manufacturing company singularly focused on commercializing the fluoride salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (KP-FHR) – a clean source of carbon-free energy that can be deployed with robust safety at an affordable cost. The company’s mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy with the ultimate goal of dramatically improving people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. Kairos Power was established in 2016 and is headquartered in Alameda, California.
Global Location Strategies was commissioned by Kairos Power, an American clean energy company, to identify a location for its new R&D and testing facility. The project requirements included proximity to its headquarters and National Labs, an educated workforce, and industry clusters with potential synergies.
Considering Kairos Power’s project requirements, GLS began its site search by looking at 50 sites across nine states. After a detailed analysis, the GLS and Kairos team visited sites in New Mexico, Tennessee, and Utah. Following detailed site due diligence, workforce evaluations, and cost estimates, the client team focused on a site in New Mexico in which they could acquire an existing building and expand on additional land.
GLS negotiated and secured economic incentives on behalf of the company.
In 2019, Kairos Power announced its selection of Albuquerque, NM for the location of its $125 million new R&D facility. The Albuquerque site included both greenfield space and former solar panel manufacturing facility.
