Scoular is an employee-owned, agribusiness that buys, sells, stores, handles, and processes grain and ingredients by leveraging its global networks and expertise in international trade and transportation. Employing 1,400 people in more than 100 offices and facilities in North America and Asia, Scoular provides safe and reliable solutions to farmers, grain processors, renewable energy producers, and manufacturers of animal feed, aquafeed and pet food as well as food, beverages, and supplements. Scoular was established in 1892 and is headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska.
Global Location Strategies was commissioned by the Scoular Company, an American agribusiness, to identify a new location for its state-of-the-art freeze-dried manufacturing facility to serve the growing consumer demand for pet food ingredients. Due to supply chain constraints, the main project driver focused on a search region in the Midwestern United States, and also considered an available labor pool.
Considering Scoular’s project requirements and search region, GLS evaluated 40 sites across five states. The analysis then narrowed the list down to four finalist sites for site visits and incentive negotiations.
GLS negotiated and secured economic incentives on behalf of the company.
In 2019, Scoular announced its selection of Seward, Nebraska for its $50 million manufacturing facility, creating 100 full-time jobs.
In 2020, the 105,000-square-foot PetSource by Scoular’s manufacturing facility began operations. Petsource is an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of The Scoular Company. Petsource will develop, procure, freeze-dry and package high-protein ingredients as a contract partner for pet food manufacturers. It is among the first in the country to bring these steps together under one roof, positioning itself as the go-to source for pet food companies. The facility includes a testing laboratory where new pet food ingredients, such as freeze-dried whole organ meats and meat analogue recipes, are created.
