The ROCKWOOL Group is a world leader in stone wool solutions covering building insulation, industrial and technical insulation for process industry, marine and offshore, customised solutions for industrial applications, wall and facade systems, acoustic ceilings, horticultural substrate solutions, engineered fibres solutions, noise and vibration control. The ROCKWOOL Group was established in 1909 and headquartered in Hedehusene, Greater Copenhagen, Denmark.
Global Location Strategies was commissioned by ROCKWOOL North America, a subsidiary of Danish multinational manufacturer ROCKWOOL Group, to identify a location for a suitable location for a stone wool insulation manufacturing facility. The project required available land for planned and future operations, the ability to accommodate a large electricity demand, and the ability to permit a heavy manufacturing facility.
Based on supply chain considerations, GLS evaluated sites across the U.S. and Canada. The sites were assessed based on their ability to meet the project’s demand for utility infrastructure, public acceptance, and their ability to accommodate the logistics and supply chain considerations preferred by the company.
Through its analysis, GLS identified 17 sites across 4 states/provinces. Sites were screened based on developability, access to electric and natural gas resources, environmental considerations, and operational costs. The GLS team recommended 5 potential sites in two states/provinces for the location of the project’s operation.
GLS negotiated and secured economic incentives on behalf of the company. Following due diligence and incentive negotiations, a site was selected by the client.
In 2024, ROCKWOOL North America announced the selection of Wallula, Washington for its $250 million state-of-the-art manufacturing facility featuring proprietary electric melting technology for its stone wool insulation products. The new facility, which would be ROCKWOOL’s fifth North American manufacturing facility, would support growing demand for the company’s products in the western United States.
