Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company (LG&E and KU Energy), part of the PPL Corporation family of companies, are regulated utilities that serve more than 1.3 million customers across more than 90 counties across Kentucky and Virginia.
Global Location Strategies was commissioned by LG&E and KU Energy to perform a site identification search across its territory. The goal of this search was to identify potential new sites that would support economic development recruitment efforts. The company recognized that its inventory of investment-ready sites was dwindling due to its recent project wins.
Using our heat mapping technology, GLS analyzed 79 counties and prioritized regions based on the initial screening. 84 individual sites were identified that met the requirements for heavy industrial development. A series of reverse site selection screenings followed, narrowing the 84 sites down to a shortlist of properties with the most potential for investment.
At the conclusion of the project, LG&E and KU Energy prioritized five sites for near-term acquisition and development, and six additional sites for future development consideration.
