Van Hool is an independent manufacturer of automobiles intended to serve worldwide with its coaches, buses and industrial vehicles. The company produces and assembles passenger coaches, buses, charter lines, trolleys, semi-trailers, and road tankers. Van Hool was established in 1947 and is headquartered in Koningshooikt, ‎Belgium.

Global Location Strategies was commissioned by Van Hool, a Belgian bus manufacturer, to identify a location for a new US production facility. The project requirements included quality and availability of workforce, quality, and availability of electric and natural gas infrastructure, reduced capital costs, and ability to complete the project within aggressive development timeline.

Considering Van Hool’s project requirements, GLS evaluated seven sites, provided by the company, as potential future locations. The sites spanned across five states – Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee – and, upon review of available sites, an additional location in Alabama was added by the GLS team for client consideration. After a desktop analysis, the GLS team visited sites in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. After detailed workforce research and incentive negotiations, a location was selected.

GLS negotiated and secured economic incentives on behalf of the company.

In 2018, Van Hool announced the selection of Morristown, Tennessee for its new $47 million bus production operation, creating 600 jobs. Van Hool expects the facility to be operational in 2025.
