The initial site search began with an evaluation of existing greenfield sites and later the addition of brownfield locations. The site qualifications were used to eliminate sites that did not meet the required criteria. A preliminary SWOT analysis was performed on each of the remaining sites. After refining the quality and cost analysis, the GLS team focused the search on four greenfield sites located between Clarksville, Tennessee and Bowling Green, Kentucky. GLS recommended the site that was ultimately selected.

In 2014, Constellium announced the selection of Bowling Green, Kentucky for its new $150 million body-in-white (BIW) aluminum sheet production facility. When in operation, the North American facility’s initial target capacity will be 100,000 tons but will allow for expansion beyond this amount.

In 2016, Constellium’s Bowling Green plant opened and began producing flat-rolled aluminum Auto Body Sheet products for the growing automotive market in North America. The finishing line at Bowling Green can produce 100,000 metric tons of aluminum Auto Body Sheet products annually. Its fully integrated line guarantees a high-quality product in one production run, with a “clean room” approach that provides an ideal finishing process, including high-speed thermal treatment, precise temperature control, highly efficient quench, unique edge-trim setup, and continuous inspection systems. 

In 2020, Constellium’s Bowling Green, Kentucky facility was recognized as an “exemplary environmental steward” by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
