At the referral of site selection consulting firm Global Location Strategies, one of North America’s largest manufacturers of household paper products broke ground on a new tissue plant in Macon, Georgia in late September.
“We conducted an exhaustive search to find the best site for Irving Consumer Products, and Macon proved to have all the key attributes necessary for them to succeed and grow,” said GLS Managing Principal Didi Caldwell. “Our extensive knowledge in the pulp and paper industry, and particularly with ThruAir Drying, gives us every confidence that Irving Consumer Products has made a superb choice in Macon.”
“We’re excited to begin construction on this new plant. The plant will create over 200 permanent, skilled jobs and allow us to continue to meet our customers’ growing demands,” said Robert K. Irving, President of Irving Consumer Products. “Our new, state-of-the-art plant will produce ultra-premium quality household paper products including soft bath tissue and high-quality paper towel that is both strong and absorbent. GLS played an important role in narrowing down the potential sites and helping identify our final location.”
The new plant will allow the company to double its ThruAir Dry capacity, increasing it by 75,000 tonnes, the equivalent of 15 million cases.
Engineering and planning for the tissue plant is already well underway with an expected completion date of 2019. The project is estimated to provide 1,000,000 person hours of work. At the height of construction, over 540 people will be working on-site.
